Vädret rår vi inte på. Vi funderar på om det hade varit fördelaktigare att lämna Biscaya under sista veckan av augusti.
Vi ligger tryggt till ankars i viken utanför Viviero. På kuststräckan mot Cap Finisterre lär det blåsa friskt i byarna, men här märker vi inte så mycket av det. Vi gör våra små jolle-utflykter till staden, vi badar och vi fortsätter putsa på och serva båten.

Äntligen bättre väderutsikter. Vi lättar och sätter kurs västerut. Tyvärr är vinden svag och riktningen emot så det blir en hel del motorgång. Vi gör ett kort besök i La Coruna på kvällen och fyller diesel,
men bestämmer oss för att fortsätta under natten, så att vi kommer runt Spaniens nordvästra udde innan vädret spelar oss nya spratt. Kuststräckan här kallas dödens kust, Costa da Morte, pga. det ofta dåliga vädret och alla skepp som har förlist här. Natten är dock lugn.

Tidigt på morgonen rundar vi Cap Finisterre, udden som romarna en gång trodde var världens ände och där man kunde se solen dö i väster. Vi klarar oss elegant förbi, trots att vi läst att segelbåtar, senast i augusti 2022, har attackerats av späckhuggare.
Till kvällen förtöjer vi i den trevliga marinan i Muros. Här var vi 2017 och hamnkaptenen Pedro är fortfarande kvar och välkomnar oss.
När vi förtöjt får vi besök av en trevlig dam som legat här med sin båt i fem veckor. Hon och hennes man hade råkat ut för späckhuggarna när de rundade Cap Finisterre och det var ingen trevlig upplevelse. Under fyrtiofem minuter hade späckhuggarna attackerat båten och framförallt rodret. Till slut gick inte båten att styra och sjöräddningen fick bogsera dem till Muros. Här låg de nu och väntade på att ett nytt roder skulle tillverkas och monteras. Hon intygade att det var en dramatisk och otäck upplevelse, som vi hoppas att vi slipper.

Vi fortsätter söderut, fortfarande i svaga vindar och mestadels vinden rakt i näsan. Så här har det inte varit när vi seglat här tidigare. Då hade vi fina vindar och oftast från norr. Nu är det bara sydliga vindar hela den kommande veckan. Men solen lyser och vi har det bra ombord. Maria bakar bröd och Fredrik njuter av doften.
Till kvällen ankrar vi i bukten utanför Baiona. Staden är känd för att Christoffer Columbus först angjorde Baiona i Europa efter att 1493 ha återvänt från den nya världen. Här ligger en fullskalig replika av skeppet Pinta, ett av Columbus tre skepp. De andra var ju Ninja och hans flaggskepp Santa Maria.

Valsöndag. Vi ligger kvar till ankars och känner oss lite skamsna. För oss båda är det premiär att ”röstskolka”. Vi började redan för en månad sedan undersöka hur vi skulle kunna rösta. Det bästa alternativet vi hittade var att vi kunde hyra en bil, åka 60 mil enkel resa till Madrid, rösta på ambassaden och sedan åka tillbaka. Det alternativet hamnade tyvärr på fel sida av vår ”röda linje” så nu är vi ofrivilliga röstskolkare. Men nog är det konstigt att man 2022 inte kan rösta digitalt med bankid eller något annat digitalt system.

We can't control the weather, but we are discussing whether it would have been more beneficial to leave Biscay during the last week of August.
We are safely anchored in the bay outside Viviero. On the coastal stretch towards Cap Finisterre, it seems to be strong gusts, but we don't notice much of it here. We make dinghy excursions to the city, we swim and we continue to polish and service the boat.

Finally a better weather forecast. We take up the anchor and head west. Unfortunately, the wind is weak and against us, so there will be a lot of motoring. In the evening we make a short stop at La Coruna and fill up the fuel, but we decide to continue through the night, so that we get around the northwestern tip of Spain before the weather plays any tricks on us. The coastline here is called the coast of death, Costa da Morte, due to the often bad weather and all the ships that have been wrecked here. The night is calm though.

Early in the morning we round Cap Finisterre, the cape that the Romans once thought was the end of the world and where you could see the sun dying in the west. We manage to pass with no problems, despite having read that sailboats, as recently as August 2022, have been attacked by killer whales. In the evening we moor in the nice marina in Muros. We were here in 2017 and the harbor captain Pedro is still at the marina and welcomes us.
When moored, we were visited by a nice lady who had been staying here with her boat for five weeks. She and her husband had been attacked by the killer whales while rounding Cap Finisterre and it was not a pleasant experience. For forty-five minutes the killer whales had attacked the boat and especially the rudder. In the end, the boat could not be steered and the sea rescue had to tow them to Muros. They were now waiting for a new rudder to be manufactured and installed. She testified that it was a dramatic and unpleasant experience, which we hope to avoid.

We continue south, still in light winds and mostly the wind is right in the nose. It hasn't been like this when we sailed here before. Then we had nice winds usually from the north. For the next coming week the forecast says only southerly winds. But the sun is shining and we are having a good time on board. Maria makes bread and Fredrik enjoys the smell of fresh bread. We anchor in the bay outside of Baiona in the evening. This was the city that Christopher Columbus first entered in Europe after returning from the New World in 1493. A full-scale replica of the ship Pinta, one of Columbus's three ships lies here. The others were Ninja and his flagship Santa Maria.

It’s election Sunday in Sweden. We remain at anchor and feel a little bit ashamed. For both of us, it's the first time we don’t vote. We already started our research on how to vote a month ago. The best option we found was that we could rent a car, drive 600 km one way to Madrid, vote at the embassy and then drive back. Unfortunately, that option ended up on the wrong side of our "red line" so now we are involuntary vote abstainers. In year 2022 it’s strange that you can't vote digitally with a bank ID or any other digital system.
